I used these for the segments of a very large digital clock build. They are easily cut for whatever your needs. The plastic bezel has some diffusion on it - not sure the level however. You can still see the LED under it with some diffusion. I would use a piece of paper under the plastic - maybe folded over and pressed into the channel if you wish more diffusion on the bezel.The plastic slides easily into the channel, however, I'm not sure how long of a run you can push it into. I used 3-6 inch pieces. You must take care not to put too mush stress on it when you join them, I recommend lightly oiling the channel contact points, or use maybe water so it evaporates later. It WILL bend and crease if forced into the channel. Just a warning. It's also not easily cut with a razor. I used a hacksaw blade in a handle to cut my lengths - that works well. However, you can trim the ends with a razor if you use slices and more passes to make it fit flush with the aluminum cut lengths.
