They come vacuum packed and will take a day or two to reach their full size. It makes sense to keep them as small as possible for storage and transport, but don't expect to use them 5 minutes after opening if you want their "spongy" appearance. I used them to restore the color of the leather on an old car and also applied black paint restorer to the exterior trim. They worked great but be aware that if you use them on a non-smooth surface they will start to crumble. I applied tire shine to the sidewalls of my tires and the sponge started to crumble when I applied force to the uneven tire sidewall writing and pattern on the rubber. I don't think it's different than what I expected, but I thought it was worth it. mention if durability is your main goal when purchasing.
