Review on ๐ŸŽ’ Economy Bag of Balsa Wood Assortment by Kelsey Brown

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Don't buy wood from Midwest Products

Bought for a Class 4 bridge project along with two other balsa packs, one from Midwest and one from Revell. This "savings bag" did not match the picture when it came out. The packaging says "Random sizes or shapes". I received 3/4 of the wood in blocks 1.25" thick or thicker. And each piece was the same length, about 5 inches. Nothing compares to an image showing long streaks of 10 to 12 inches. The second pack from the Midwest was a more expensive 1/4 inch strip. There were knots and gray "skin" on the wood. (the maximum allowable for the project) and everything needs to be measured with calipers and carefully planned. The corners were notched and chipped, further reducing the amount of usable wood. The Revell set came with uniform 1/4" x 36" planks with no burrs or knots, which is what you would expect from this type of premium hobby wood. I recommend staying away from the Midwest brand.

Pros
  • South American Rainforest Grown
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
