Review on C2G 29171 Velocity Speaker Meters by Erin Bowers

Not suitable for walls. Wiring and connection info

I'm building a house and will have a media room, so I'm planning on pre-wiring for surround sound and network. I've been looking for 12AWG wire in the wall for a while and searched and found this wire. I looked at a picture and read the reviews and everything looked fine so I ordered a 25ft trial roll in case it didn't meet my needs and am glad I went this method. The item arrived quickly thanks to the Prime and I was happy to see the thick well protected wire but was very disappointed when I rode the first few meters and found no UL rating, no CL or CM rating. Although this is a wholesale cable and you can find many reviews talking about using it in a wall, it is not classified as a wall cable. Also, I found that it's true 12 AWG wire and has great insulation, but when it comes to stripping the wires, the outer jacket cuts easily and the cotton jacket protects the individual wires, so it's nice. However, the insulation of individual pins can hardly be removed cleanly. I used a Klein stripper and had no problem with the other 12AWG wire, but after using a few different methods including the good old thumb twist method of a sharp knife and dividing the length I cut, I came up with it it still doesn't come out clean. Just want to point out that I'm not a wire cutter so I hope this helps.

Pros
  • Connect the audio head unit (receiver) to the speakers
Cons
  • Not bad
