Works for downscaling on old HDCP 1.4 and HDMI 1.4 compatible HDTV

My TV doesn't have overscan settings and I'm fed up with clipped subtitles and cropped screen in general from videos. It belonged to my uncle and it was one of those 1366x768 TVs. It's a ten year old Sony that he gave to my family in '11. It sucks that this Sony could have been a better value given it doesn't have any scan options and the Bravia aren't basic TVs. I'm just glad it took so long. Anyway, I'm using a scaler for my Chromecast (ultra), and what a relief. All I needed was an HDMI cable, nothing fancy, just a fresh cable from Walmart. Probably won't be the most perfect quality because it has to transcode and all, and the Chromecast doesn't connect directly to the TV. But I am quite satisfied with the quality. There's a good sound and a pretty good color scheme. There is a small noise that doesn't bother me much. And most importantly, I see the breadth of each YouTube video. There is a permission button on the back, only two levels work for me, 720p output and 1080p with both 1080p inputs (Chromecast). There is a zoom button that allows you to zoom 5x from wide view to the cropped image. There is also an HDMI/DVI button where DVI does not output sound through the HDMI cable. It tolerates temperatures well without getting too warm. And the only extra included in the kit is a DC jack. Good stuff. Update: I don't mind keeping the five stars, it was still the only solution I could find. A few months ago, the upscaler gave up. I'm not getting a new one and just have to put up with a slightly cropped YouTube. Still a good article as it delivers what it promises. As a tip for others, maybe don't leave this thing on all the time and it will last a long time.

Pros
  • . DOES NOT support HDMI 2.0 or HDCP 2.2
