Review on NewAir G56 5600 Garage Heater by Christina Ford

In any case, in my case, it is a fire hazard.

I bought a used one here in October last year, like new. It worked fine for a few months, but one day I lit it up in the garage and went out to lunch. After about 10 minutes I walked into the garage which smelled of burning electricity and noticed the heater fan had stopped working but the coil was still on and glowing red. I unplugged it, let it cool and left it on all summer. A few days ago I took it apart and found that one of the wires (red) had its insulation melted along with one of the wires going to the fan. Not only did both wires have melted insulation, but the wires themselves were destroyed. I think what might have happened is the red wire is connected to the coil, there is a connector there and it was loose causing a short circuit that melted the wires. I was very lucky to only leave the heater unattended for 10-15 minutes because although this heater was supposed to have a high temp cut off, it didn't work. I ended up buying 10 gauge wire from Lowes and replacing the burned wire. I soldered the wire to the limit switch and coil so there is no further problem with loose connections. The heater is working as it should again, but now I turn it off when I leave the room and when I'm not using the heater I leave it unplugged. I definitely don't believe it!
