Update: After some very strange failure modes for some reason everything worked correctly and I now have a HUGE DVR! Hooray! Subtracting one star for initial errors, some loud noise (my Bose speakers muffle it, so no big deal) as the drive keeps spinning and the blue LED keeps blinking. Aside from those minor annoyances, this hard drive works as a DVR expander. No idea why it didn't work right away. The installation is very easy. It's possible that the DVR box downloaded a firmware update that fixed the problem.
