Review on πŸšͺ Genie ALKT1-R Aladdin Connect Smart Garage Door Opener: Alexa & Google Assistant Compatible Kit by Earl Ton

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Difficult installation but decent device. Not much confidence in long-term reliability.

Foreword – I'm pretty good at installers and good at a lot of things (tech, grew up with computers and smartphones), but the genius system is just bad programming. Physical installation is simple - two wires and a connector. The screw holes lined up with the old wall mount. On the other hand, the app on my Android had problems at every stage. You download the app to your phone and follow the step-by-step installation instructions. But every step I had to go back and repeat twice because the screen that was supposed to appear didn't appear and it took me a few minutes to update the system I think. IE set up the required account and then logged in but it said I didn't have an account. After about a minute or two, it magically started recognizing my account. The whole setup is like this and in my case the device didn't connect to the cloud server as intended and there is nothing in the FAQ about it, so I had to call/email the support team (there was always a waiting time btw. E -Mail (since they closed) took 1-2 days.In the end my system works and I like it.Even the history log when I clicked this option the first 2 times said there is no history then after unsuccessful search in the FAQ why the history magically popped out FYI if you're having the same problems as me, when the green light is flashing, press and hold the "MFI" button until you hear two beeps to prompt the device to turn on To perform a software update, which takes 5 minutes, then you should If you get a solid green light, turn off the device, if you want to perform a hard reset, press and hold the two buttons (MFI and WiFi) while you it again plug it in, and wait 15 seconds, then release. Don't worry about the indicators because they're going crazy, just pay attention for 15 seconds according to the client, the caring lady I spoke to, although it sounds wrong to me. Much luck. I wouldn't buy Genie again because all their gear doesn't work with anything else. You're stuck with them. I also felt very uncomfortable when they asked for my address alongside other information unrelated to troubleshooting their faulty devices. The last thing you need is a database of your address and information on how to open a garage door in the same place. Two stars because once installed it seems to work fine and very cool. * You can set very limited functions, for example the door will be closed automatically if left open for a certain time. * View open/close timestamp in history. * Shows you the open/close status. What you can't do with this device. * Turn light on/off or disable remote controls like lock button. * Half open/close garage door. * Use the app without setting up a Genie account. . (There's no point having a silent, belt-driven door.) I had to tape over the speaker so I didn't wake up the whole house when I got home at night.
