Review on πŸ“ Vermont American 21939 Thread Gauge for Precise Measurement and Analysis by Nick Andep

Strange choice of which thread pitch to cover

I bought this thread gauge primarily to work with bikes. Older English Raleigh-made bikes have bottom bracket and headset threads that are 26 TPI rather than the more common 24 TPI. Unfortunately, the designers of this sensor decided to skip 26 dpi and include the 27 dpi sensor instead. In fact, they jump straight from 24 to 27 and skip everything in between. Working on cars, motorcycles, bicycles and as a chief electrician, I have never encountered a 27tpi thread in my life. Spring. At least they have a 24tpi sensor so I can use the elimination process. Thread gauges included: 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24, 27, 28, 32, 36 and 40. I'm a bit disappointed with this gauge. It's very small/cheap and the numbers stamped on each gauge are hard to read (but I'm pretty sure it says 27 as I only checked under magnification to be sure). Looks MUCH bigger/prettier in the photo than it really is. At that price I could buy a really cheap SAE tap and die set from Harbor Freight for a few dollars more and get a similarly priced gauge for free.
