I needed a big enough pump and chamber for my mountain bike on my adventure bike. I couldn't use a big enough seat bag because of the dropper post. I've carried these items in a water bottle on my MTB, but I don't like carrying them when riding with the handlebars on. I had to remove the bottle cages on the 29er MTB frame, but for shorter rides I can carry a water bottle in my backpack with the added benefit of not getting the spout dirty. On longer rides, I can pop in a Camelbak Long Neck 2L water bottle and thread the hose through the port at the front. I also like that it can be expanded if I want to wear a jacket inside.
