This tool has a 3/8" square hole so you can use a 3/8" ratchet or extension to turn 1/2" powered ratchet or extension. The reason for this is that the drain plug on the filter housing also has a 3/8" square hole and you should be able to hold the filter housing in place with a tool by inserting a 3/8" operating extension through the 1/ Plug in 2 inch extension. square hole for loosening the drain plug. Because the drain plug has a higher torque than the filter housing, you cannot loosen the drain plug without holding the filter housing (which this tool is designed to do). Of course, if you don't remove the drain plug first, you'll get oil smeared all over you when you remove the case. A 2" drill and then I can still use either an adjustable wrench or a 27mm socket to hold and rotate the tool. For those who haven't bought one yet, look for one with a 1/2" square hole.
