I'm fairly new to Pentax, switched from Olympus to get better low light and high ISO performance for indoor sports shooting. When looking for lenses for the new system I looked at several including the Sigma 70-200 f2.8, the Pentax 50-135 f2.8 and this Pentax 60-250 f4. I rented all three to try before I pocket my hard-earned cash. The Sigma was good for indoor use, but a bit too short and not weatherproof for outdoor sports where I also shoot. The Pentax 50-135 was very good for indoor shots, very sharp and with a wide open aperture. It was also weatherproof for outdoor use, but too short for baseball, soccer, and softball, but adequate for track and field. Pentax 60-250 f4 was just right, like in a fairy tale. The range caters to both indoor and outdoor sports, at least the ones I shoot with, and it's weatherproof. Image quality is excellent, and while it's not as fast as the f2.8 lenses I use with the excellent high ISO Pentax k-5, it's good enough for the shutter speeds I need to get the Stopping action when doing sports in space. I squeezed this lens and couldn't be happier. Defects? Well, it's expensive and heavy. So if you're on a tight budget or don't want to lug around heavy rigs, it might not be for you. I've found I can shoot an entire two hour game easily, and for daytime activities there's always a monopod that I use in situations where it's warranted.
