I have three HiLetgo Arduino Pro Mini boards where the onboard 5V regulators have failed. Rather than throw them away or return them, and since it looked like a problem with the voltage regulator, I removed the built in 5V regulators. I am using an external regulator MIC2940A with a low quiescent current of 5 volts. All 3 Arduino Pro Minis are now working properly. IDE settings for programming Arduino Pro Mini; Arduino Diecimila or DuemilanoveProgrammer AVRISP MKIIATMega 328Port COM4 (or any other USB serial port). Just make sure you have connected the USB board properly. !
