I've tried several French presses (all glass) over the years and although they all ended up cracking and breaking, I've never had any complaints. After my last press broke after accidentally banging it against the sink, I finally got fed up with this Groundhog Day scenario and decided to spend an exorbitant amount of money on a French press. After receiving it I am very happy with the design and the chances of it breaking is almost zero. Build quality aside, I've come to the conclusion that the ability to keep water hot and allow for a thicker simmer for several minutes is something a glass press isn't capable of. Not for nothing, but my coffee actually tastes much better. I will also buy one of the largest.
