Amazing piece of test equipment

This unit is amazing.I own scopes and even a spectrum analyzer, but never had a network analyzer at home. I've used many at work, including the HP/Agilent 8753 and 8510 series. They were all too big and pricey. This little NanoVNA-F does 80% of what I would use those for (at least in the frequency range it works in).About the only thing missing is port-attenuators - but this is 140 bucks and the 8753s are about 3,000 bucks on the used market. And you can't move them around like you can this little gem.The performance of the NanoVNA-F is outstanding, and the display quality (with this 4.3" unit) is as well. And the case is metal and feels professional in your hand (while providing shielding for better performance).I've provided a few pics so you can see the size and the hardware and software version level, etc. While the V2.3 hardware version I got goes to 1.5 GHz, it's configured for 1 GHz out of the box. You'll have to reconfigure and do a cal with the included SOLT items to push to 1.5G.As shown in the spectrum analyzer picture, the output level from port 1 is flat to about 300 MHz and above that it uses the 3rd harmonic (or 5th above 900 MHz) to do its thing, so the levels are lower. None of that really matters for a lot of uses, but it is interesting to note, and speaks to a potential to use this as a synthesized CW signal generator too - if you have a step attenuator. As a use-case, I also included a photo of my HF vertical antenna and the resulting S11 plot. There are _tons_ of potential uses of this instrument, but no room here to discuss all those. Just understand that this unit does what the commercial units do and can be used for most of the applications of those with very few compromises. It is quite simply - amazing.

Pros
  • High Capacity Battery
Cons
  • Inability to measure power: The device is not capable of measuring power, which may be a limitation for some applications
