I switched to this model after my cheap rice cooker was too small for my needs. I went through the sizing between 5.5 and 10 cups and decided that the 5.5 cup size was best for my needs. I use a rice cooker every day not just for rice, but for cooking eggs, semolina, oatmeal, porridge, steaming a small portion of potatoes, and even reheating a can of baked beans. I find the melody charming (at least for now :)) and it's nice that you can turn it into a regular beep or turn it off. The handle is comfortable, the device is light but durable. I had to balance the requested price. The size of this cooker was exactly what I expected - nice and compact but capable of cooking a lot of rice. I cook for three so I don't need a 10 cup container. It turns out that the rice is excellent, the bottom does not burn. It's a lot easier to clean than my old oven - it was clearly designed to do that. However, I hate the timer. I have strong feelings for him. It's not a deal breaker, but I'm disappointed. I like the timer which is easy to set to minute intervals be it 3 minutes or 32 minutes. Or a snooze timer that I can set for 5:00 and leave it on for as long as I like. This timer (as far as I can see) only allows you to set the exact time in 10 minute intervals. So if it's 2:03pm and I want to cook something in 20 minutes, I can't. All I can say is that it's /ready/ with rice at a certain time. This is good for rice because it has those properties, but not so good when I want to use it for hard boiled eggs. Just to let any buyer know, times are in military time (24 hours) and cannot be changed. I'd rather set it to 20 minutes and that's it. Yes, I can use the quick cook function and set an external timer, but that's not my preference. Despite all the shortcomings of my cheap cooker, I really thought that besides pre-cooking the rice, I could also set the timer to whatever I wanted. cooking time was his best attribute. Of course, it didn't have a delay time to turn it on automatically, but I found I didn't really need that functionality. Although it would be nice to have both. The arguably more expensive model with a steamer function and steamer basket has the welcome flexibility of a timer. It's a shame because it's a wonderful machine and I don't think the timer should be designed the way it is. All in all, I highly recommend this stove. You just have to decide if a timer is right for you, and if you can't set the machine to turn off when you want, you can be prepared. I would say if you are going to use this machine. For rice only, it's 100% designed for that and you won't have a problem. If you enjoy making hot cereal every day or using it to steam your eggs, you may find the timer issue very tiresome so you might want to consider a different model.
