I bought this router to replace the Apple Airport Extreme. The Airport Extreme was reliable and easy to use, so Netgear set a high bar for me. I decided to replace the Airport Extreme for two main reasons: I need QoS for my VOIP phone (Airport Extreme doesn't offer QoS!) and I need a 4th Ethernet port. My biggest concern was reliability. I've tried many different routers over time and had serious reliability issues. I've had Netgear for a few days now and have moved several hundred GB with it in that time. So far Netgear has been very reliable. The QoS setup made the VOIP phone much better and the 4th Ethernet port allowed me to connect everything directly to the router now. The user interface for managing and configuring the router is a typical set of web-based Netgear screens. Some people like it, but I find it clumsy. Using advanced features like QoS requires a high level of technical expertise and documentation is also lacking in this area. However, the core functions are easy to set up and there is even a wizard for the basics. I'll update if reliability becomes an issue, but so far I haven't had any concerns with the router. This router has a few features that I didn't consider when making my purchase decision, but which I really like now. what i have: 1) i really like the stand to put the router in a vertical orientation. This orientation allows for very good airflow around the router, so it should stay cooler (and more reliable) over time. If vertical alignment is an issue, you can also set the alignment to horizontal. 2) The router can monitor WAN usage and can alert when usage is exceeded. Very handy if you have internet restrictions and move a lot of data. (Documentation for this section of the product needs to be completed)
