I have added a previous version of this product, 4x1000, to my Revain Christmas list. My daughter took the bait and I was very happy with the product. I was very impressed with the build quality and enjoyed using it to inspect a variety of tiny objects. The only thing that let me down was the tiny manual and the not-too-rigid stand. I contacted the seller and he was very helpful by sending me a link to a full sized online manual. When I was looking for a new stand, I came across this newer 5x1000 version with a very good stand and many new features and ordered it straight away. The new Rack and Pinion tripod is as strong as you could ask for, yet small enough to disassemble and slip into your camera and field tool case. I have found that by loosening the locking screw on the stand you can turn the camera sideways to photograph small subjects on top of a larger subject. The microscope itself is a huge improvement! It's very easy to use with my Android tablet or desktop computer thanks to Wi-Fi. Camera and lighting controls are conveniently located and easy to use. The zoom controls work very well, but are a little tight and can rotate the camera in the mount if you're not careful. You may consider placing a rubber pad in a circle against the two thumbscrews to avoid this. The light has a long range and is very easy to control. I tried AmCap and Xploview software as mentioned in the manual. So far, I prefer Xploview for its ease of use and settings for videos, photos, and stop-motion animations. You can even use the Windows 10 camera if that suits you better. One trick I've learned is to set the time-lapse at 20 fps when you're shooting an unstable subject, then pick one or two of the best and discard the rest. Overall this is a great product with good support at a very reasonable price. Price. take action.
