Like other reviewers, I had a DI-784 that broke down spontaneously. Since the device was faulty and failed about a year after purchase, D-Link replaced it. Two years later, the new device failed with the same symptoms as the previous one: it was unresponsive, all LAN and WAN indicators were on, and the other indicators were off. The most interesting thing is that when I requested another RMA from D-Link, they first approved it and then decided not to honor the RMA. Because? It has been more than three years since I bought the defective device. Unlike some manufacturers, D-Link does not reset the warranty period when replacing a defective product. Obviously this time they had a hard time deciding whether to settle for their faulty product. They decided against it. Goodbye D-Link. Aside from the fact that the DI-784 is a defective series, I can't comment on how the performance compares to the competition. However, prior to purchasing this device, I liked it and recommended D-Link. I still have a working DI-704 that I keep as a backup (and I've needed it more than once due to DI-784 failures). After reading numerous consumer reviews of current D-Link products, it seems to me that this lower standard of quality is now the norm. The DI-784 was my third D-Link product but it will be my last.
