If your shifter is not working properly and is moving more than it should, this is most likely your problem. They're not difficult to install, but the job requires you to lower the steering column so you can access the bolts, which must be removed to gain access to that area. Prepare to devote an hour or so to this job if you've never done it before and give it your time. Be aware of the shift indicator cable, it's flimsy and you don't want to break it because without it you don't know what you're good at.
