The pom poms had a chemical smell

I bought these pom poms to decorate the winter hats I crocheted for a good cause. Although they were beautiful, they gave off an unpleasant smell. I left a few to see if the smell would go away, but it didn't. I bought 2 different bags and both had the same smell.
