This is not a magnet or suction cup. Instead, there's a strong clip on the back of the mount that attaches to the vent and snaps into place. I have an iPhone XR with a thick case and it holds the phone very well. I don't like magnet holders because I always have a thick and strong case on my phone so the magnet doesn't hold the phone. And there is no convenient place to put a suction cup on the dash, which is why I love this clip. There's a swivel that lets you adjust the angle and tilt of the phone so you can see the screen from the driver's seat. You need to find the working angle and then rotate the joint to hold it in place. You can adjust the angle by loosening the screw and then tightening it again. My phone is heavy so it shakes/bounces a bit when driving. However, it's not close to falling. I've shaken and tugged at the blow dryer and it's still holding up pretty well.
