Review on ☕️ 1Zpresso J-Max S Manual Coffee Grinder - Silver Coated Conical Burr, Foldable Handle, 40g Capacity, Numerical Adjustable Fineness Setting, Fast Grinding Efficiency - Ideal for Espresso by Nick Mosley

Revainrating 3 out of 5

2 stars on Arrival, 5 star product with adjustment

Like others have said, this thing could have been a 5 star product but the QA on the units sold here is screwing the initial experience. When I received the Jmax, it was completely locked up. Even after moving the adjustment dial to the highest (most coarse) setting, the grinder was still completely locked and would not budge. I ended up having to completely disassemble the grinder and re-calibrate the burrs.I'll give credit where it's due: this thing is very easy to take apart. Setting the "zero" point is not. This is my first espresso grinder, so maybe this would not be an issue for someone who has used manual grinders before. But for a complete newbie, having to wade through many opinions of what the the incredibly I'll defined "zero point" of these grinders is was incredibly frustrating (1zpresso defines it as "the point where you feel resistance" which sounds easy enough on paper but it's useless to gauge in practice). In the end, I gave up and defined my own zero point. Hopefully I will be able to redial this in next time I take the thing apart, but I honestly doubt it. With a completely arbitrary zero point, you will have to relearn the grind range after every single cleaning.Apart from all that, this thing is a joy to use. Now that I have it setup and have found my ideal grind settings, I am loving the experience. If thier "ready to use out of the box" claim was actually true, this would be a 4-5 star product. If you know your way around these things, I would highly recommend this grinder. If you are completely new to the world of manual coffee grinders like I was, I think you should try a different brand.

Pros
  • Saves money by allowing for at-home coffee grinding
Cons
  • The coated conical burr may affect the taste of the coffee
