Best buy in a hand powered grinder.

Bought this as an upgrade to my Time More C2 as I am eyeballing a Flair espresso manual machine. Jaw dropping improvement in uniformity of grind. Quick guess gave espresso grind for Alan Adler's latte recipe, pour over for the aeropress funnel and 4 cup filter trick ( take that Chemex! ), and a coarse grind for an interesting Cafe phin drip. Ten minutes out of the box and you can safely assume I ain't no coffee expert. Just a seeker. Espresso people on Facebook groups and other forums stress…

Pros
  • Manual Grinders
Cons
  • The magnet catch cup may not hold enough coffee for those who require more than one cup

Excellent espresso grinder

Those who drink drip coffee should probably look elsewhere, as this specializes in espresso. Read the instructions first! You will almost certainly have to reset the 0 point. Once you figure out how the adjustment dial works, it's very easy to use. It seems the recommended settings (e.g. 120 clicks for espresso) aren't valid for most people out of the box, as most of us seem to be using 150-160 instead (or even a bit beyond, depends on the beans too) so keep that in mind too.Strengths:- A…

Pros
  • This is my second grinder by this brand. Very well made and suits my coffee drinking habit.
Cons
  • The J-Max S is not suitable for large families or groups as it only has a capacity of 40g

Top quality but neither small nor lightweight

Everything about this grinder feels like top quality. It is extremely smooth to use and balanced weight in your hands. Not too much effort to get a very fine grind and it can easily produce a grind that will be too fine for any espresso machine! But once worked out it will consistently provide perfect grounds, and the process of hand grinding gives a visceral satisfaction that mat alone be the reason you're going to feel like the coffee is better. One gripe is that mine was definitely not…

Pros
  • ☕ FOLDABLE HANDLE - Solid and foldable crank handle, Portable & Space-Saving, smaller and easier to carry and storage
Cons
  • The J-Max S is more expensive than other manual grinders on the market

Pretty decent grinder

The J-Max is a great looking grinder with superb build quality. It feels very sturdy and the small touches like the magnet dosing cup and the external adjustment dial make it a step up from the other JX grinders. It's not all roses though. While this is pretty subjective I feel it underperformed in the cup. The shots I pulled felt like they lacked body no matter how I dialed it in or the bean I used. While it is a joy to use I decided it wasn't worth keeping since it was getting outperform by…

Pros
  • ☕ QUICK-RELEASE MAGNETS CATCH CUP - Much easier removal by twisting the catch cup. Bigger capacity and a large room to contain your coffee.
Cons
  • The J-Max S may not be suitable for those with hand or wrist injuries, as it requires a lot of manual effort

Worth every single penny!

If you just do pour-over, this machine may be overkill. But if you do turkish coffee, esspresso, phin or moka, this is a must have. Beautifully designed and built, it will grind anything from a baby powder texture to French roast granules. Check out the Youtube reviews, and enjoy.

Pros
  • ☕ PRODUCT GUARANTEES - The burr was calibrated and fixed in place by the 1Zpresso team, ensure no wobbly parts or burrs that come loose as time goes on. Estimated grind approx 100-200KG by general use. Includes a one-year limited warranty, you will definitely get 100% customer support.
Cons
  • The J-Max S is not as consistent as electric grinders in terms of grind size

Very difficult for Medium Roast Coffee Bean

I bought this because of a lot of great review on online and amazon review. I used Moka pot as my daily coffee brewer. I have slightly smaller hand than the average adult male hand. I gave this grinder for a week to grind medium roast coffee bean. And it was very very difficult and very hard to move the hand. I tried to tilt the grinder to 45 degree for easier grind and that didnt do much at all. If you want to use this grinder for medium or lighter roast, good luck and better use drill and…

Pros
  • 1Zpresso
Cons
  • The J-Max S may require more effort to grind than other manual grinders due to its conical burr

GREAT value! for my opinion

I was a little cautious about this product, but with many reviews online and a Facebook group full of people recommending it, I went for it - very happy with this product. I'm grinding for espresso with a Flair and Vietnamese style with an Aeropress. Since the doses are small (20g and under) it's no problem. For my daily frenchpress (45gr dose) I'm using Baratza Encore as hand grinding that would be a chore. I highly recommend the J-max especially when it's on sale (I paid $180, but I've…

Pros
  • Makes a nice Expresso ground! Easy to use
Cons
  • just has a medium grind and an expresso , no real french or cold brew

"cheap " Espresso quality

i think that 8.5 microns its a lot, but you will need it with a hand espresso machine and a cheap scale, this grinder produce a considerable amount of fines, so your espresso would come with a lot of attitude, but you need to calibrate another variables to prevent astringiese (temp, grams of coffee, preheating, pre infusion, pressure curve), this grinder also produce static but you won't be able of splash your beans with water because the fabricant won't allow it, but you have a perfect brush…

Pros
  • 2JMAXS01-SI-C
Cons
  • The J-Max S may not be suitable for travel, as it is larger and more fragile than other manual grinders

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good manual grinder

Grinds well and the step size is fine enough for most applications. Great build quality, fantastic bearings, and nice handle. Only downside is a small bit of static cling for some beans that makes getting the ground coffee out a bit messy.

Pros
  • Foldable handle for easy storage and portability
Cons
  • The J-Max S may not be suitable for those who require a more rugged and durable coffee grinder

Should've gotten this much sooner

I've been using a hario hand grinder for my aeropress for many years. It was adequate. When I decided to plunge into espresso, I got this. I knew it would be more precise and able to do finer grinds, and it does perfectly dial in espresso. I didn't expect that it would be so much easier and faster to grind! It's maybe 20 seconds to grind what I need, and very easy. Unless you are making more than 5 coffees per day I honestly have no idea why anyone would buy an electric grinder. It's so easy…

Pros
  • Ergonomic design with comfortable grip
Cons
  • The J-Max S may not be suitable for those who require a coffee grinder with adjustable burr speed

Good Manual Grinder

Adjustments are perfect for espresso. The zero setting was a little difficult to set. Watch and read the info provided but you will have to figure it out. Once it works there is a lot of coffee build up around the burrs, so you will need to clean it. My 51mm filter basket from my Delonghi machine is held in place by the magnetic base perfectly, so I can grind right into it. Overall my work flow isn’t the cleanest but I’m hoping it will get easier with time. I’ve had it for a few days so I can’t

Pros
  • Smooth and quiet grinding operation
Cons
  • The J-Max S may not be suitable for those who require a more visually appealing coffee grinder

Very good for espresso

The grinder gives very good quality for espresso. I need 45 sec to grind around 16-17 grams.I have no complains about grind quality. No complains about adjustment. No complains about ease of grinding (for a hand grinder). The looks, build quality and feel are absolutely great. The only real problem I have with it is: if I dont do RDT then i get like 0.7 gram of retention, and ground coffee gets stuck all around the grinding cup, which is a disaster for espresso. I dont like doing RDT for my…

Pros
  • Buen producto
Cons
  • The packaging was damaged and the grinder shows clear signs of use.

Best grinder for espresso

got this product after doing excessive research for a hand grinder. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and wish I could give it 6 stars! It’s build quality along with function are above any other hand grinder in the market, if you are looking for an espresso grinder, this is the one.

Pros
  • Easy to clean with removable parts
Cons
  • The J-Max S may not be suitable for those who require a coffee grinder for use in a professional setting

Hard To Turn ! in my review

We use it on extended holiday. Quality & ground coffee are great ! HOWEVER, neither my adult daughter or my wife are strong enough to turn the handle. I’m thinking of extending the handle to make it easier for me to turn.

Pros
  • Highly customizable for varying brewing methods
Cons
  • The J-Max S may not be suitable for those who require a coffee grinder with a finer thread pitch

Hard to Crank for my opinion

I love the idea of hand cranking beans for espresso. But good golly folks! You'd have to be Hercules to do so with this thing. It was tough to grind a medium roast. Jerky at every turn. Took a long time. Just not my way to start the day.

Pros
  • Quickly and easily switch between grind settings
Cons
  • The J-Max S may not be suitable for those who require a coffee grinder for use in a noisy environment

One of the best, if not THE best hand grinder for espresso

Have been a fan of 1Zpresso since my first purchase of JX Pro. This is my third 1Z hand grinder. And it continues to impress. There are many reviews you can find on YouTube. So, won't repeat the specs. The quality of the grinder is unbeatable for the price. The work of flow is made easy with the external adjustment. The grind is effortless for espresso, ground is consistent. The adjustment is super fine, make the grinder more suitable for espresso than pour-over (not that you can't, but rather…

Pros
  • Compact size fits seamlessly into any kitchen
Cons
  • The J-Max S may produce more heat than desired during the grinding process

Game Changer! best in my review

This J Max Hand Grinder is Top Tier!Quality Materials, Solid Build and it is a joy to use.You will get some retention, so one must adjust accordingly with a couple of extra beans or RDT.However, it is Absolutely Perfect for Espresso!

Pros
  • Dual bearing system ensures stability during use
Cons
  • The J-Max S may not be suitable for those who prefer a coffee grinder with a wider range of grind settings

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great Design, Easy to Use, Incredible Performance!

I ordered this grinder to improve my espresso setup and after only one use it has been so worth it! It gives you the quality of a high-end electric grinder without the large footprint and its much more wallet-friendly. The case makes it easy to take it with me to work, and the grind-size adjustment is very intuitive and allows for many different kinds of brew methods. I will update this review as time goes on, but I am very satisfied so far.

Pros
  • Aesthetically pleasing addition to any coffee setup
Cons
  • The numerical settings may be difficult to adjust for those with limited hand mobility

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Awesome Grinder for Dialing In Espresso

Its pretty fast for a hand grinder. I only have a Timemore C3 to compare it to, but the J-Max seems to be a lot more consistent and offers way more settings to fine tune your grind. The dial on top is so easy to use compared to the internal mechanism of the C3. Also, you can take this grinder apart really easy to wipe all internal parts clean.

Pros
  • Makes a great gift for coffee lovers who value a high-quality grind
Cons
  • The J-Max S may not be suitable for those who require a coffee grinder with a more intuitive adjustment system

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Immediate improvement in my coffee

I noticed an Immediate improvement in my espresso shots. No more chanelling and there is even more flavor and aroma.I pair it with BBP and IMS basket. Couldn't ask for more.

Pros
  • 10.71 x 4.21 x 4.21 inches
Cons
  • The J-Max S is not suitable for coarse grinds, such as French press or cold brew
