Lack of instructions is frustrating

Should it look like it's floating 1/8 inch above the table surface? I haven't seen any other way to install it without it looking like it - which doesn't look good to me. So I used a router to sink the mounting points and ended up being super flush. Without instructions it was difficult to know if I did it right or not, but since I know how to use it I did it. Not a bad device for the price, but I think there should be a guide for it.
