slow performance and poor range, no grip

I was reluctant to try them because I don't like the design and I didn't want either of them to be visible on both floors of my house. However, I've tried systems from several other manufacturers to no avail, and this system has auto-sensing multi-gigabit ports (very annoying that nobody has multi-gigabit WANs and LANs). Setup was easy, far better than any system I've tried. The only problem was that the second block was linked to the main block before I got to that step in the app, so I was confused for a minute. The app is fast and fully functional. I connected my Xfinity box as a WiFi disabled router to a multi-gigabit switch running MoCA and a main X90 box coming out of the switch. The X90 system is in access point mode. The bottom block had MoCA in a 2.5Gb port and a gigabit switch coming out of the gigabit port (nothing out there runs faster than gigabit). Everything worked and is stable. The speeds are disappointing. Sitting in my chair six feet from the main X90, I averaged about 200Mbps; I easily reached 600Mbps+ with Nest WiFi or XB7 Wireless. When I moved into my office I had about 35Mbps, although I used to have over 200Mbps. Moving about ten feet to the main X90 increased the speed a bit, but it wasn't enough to get within 20-30 feet of the main X90. I asked for help through the app and didn't have to wait long to be connected to Charlayne Oquindo. He or she was very slow, obviously helping several people at once, and just going through the checklist. After about an hour, being told to do what I had already tried and ignoring my questions, I gave up. I received an email asking me to do the same thing I was getting upset about in the chat. I know rebooting, checking cables, etc. is sometimes the answer, but once someone starts describing their network using MoCA, wired transport, etc., you can probably quickly jump to grandpa solutions. I sent the device back and now only use the XB7.

Pros
  • Sturdy design
Cons
  • Damaged
