Part of a great kitchen TV system I've lost access to most "standard" TV channels , which I use for cable TV. I didn't have room for another FIOS converter in the kitchen and didn't want to pay a regular fee. So I found a solution that works for me - combined with my only FIOS converter. A Vizio digital TV mounted to the underside of my kitchen cabinets (which works great under the cabinet too) with a Vantage Point wall mount. The TV in the kitchen is now connected to the same channel selected on a FIOS box in the living room. . It was great but we had to go to another room to change the channel. Then I found something magical: a new generation remote control. This magical device has a receiver that plugs into the wall next to the FIOS box and a transmitter that fits into the FIOS console. How do I get a second FIOS remote control? Well if you poke around you can just request one (free) from the FIOS website - mine arrived in a few days. You put a real battery in the new FIOS remote and then in the transmitter (which contains a rechargeable battery and is the same form factor as the battery). Now the magic is, when you press a button on the new FIOS adapter, the battery picks up the codes sent and transmits them to the receiver, which generates new IR signals to start the FIOS receiver. Surprisingly everything works like a charm! Both TVs show the same channel, but if you don't need two converters, this solution is a real winner! PS: If you have a long cable (several hundred meters), don't buy a normal CAT5 cable - use a certified KVM. Cable. This cable has the particular property of equal delay on all pairs (because it is used with analogue signals, like this solution). My run was about 100ft and I used the CAT-5e which I have used before and it works great). PSS: I see negative reviews about Tripp's product. Well I'm EE and I know how to design and test a CAT-5e cable with the connectors I plug in. If someone does this and reverses the pairs, or connects the wires incorrectly, or somehow fails to break a wire, then the picture will be crap. If you purchase this product, please try a short Category 5e LAN cable first. That is, connect a tripp to the set-top box, then the cable to another set-top box, the second set-top box to the TV you want to use remotely. See if it works, then the problem is with the cables/connectors.
