I researched chess pieces for days until I decided on these. I couldn’t find many hand carved pieces made from other than wood (my dogs love wood so I don’t) these looked nice online and just as nice in person.They didn’t mention anything about cushioning, however, they came with sick on microcell foam padding with plenty of extras.I was worried about size, but they look awesome on my custom round chess board which is 28” x 28”.I read how the pieces are packaged well, however, I am in the packaging business and the packaging is marginal at best. True they are packed in compartmented styrofoam, the kings did not fit in any openings so they stack a queen, a king, and a pawn together in edge pockets with the dividers cut out. It’s no wonder they have occasional damage though mine did not. It’s very surprising they can get here from the orient (I know because of the cardboard though they never state a country of origin) in one piece but they used copious amounts of tape to limit movement. At least they did that right.Don’t get me wrong, I pack lasers, mass storage cabinets, and anything barely touchable and super fragile, they do totally warrant their product and extend it for 30 days to replace pieces and I read they are quick to replace damaged parts.
