Review on K&N Engine Air Filter 33-2154: High Performance, Washable Replacement Filter for 1996-2008 Subaru (Impreza, Forester, Legacy, Outback, and more) by Keith Stuckey

Excellent replacement parts investment

I have never owned any of these products and was skeptical about buying after seeing the price at the local dealership and even here. At some points where they changed the oil, they told me different things. I'm a full-time student and I'm looking for ways to save money on anything. I've switched back and forth to ethanol and non-ethanol gas, air conditioning with windows off, platinum spark plugs, etc. I have a 2000 Subaru Outback with 272,000 miles on it. As a four-wheel drive, I knew it wouldn't get many miles to the gallon even as a four-wheeler, and the mileage didn't help. In fact, I've found that I get a lot more miles on non-ethanol gas. Well, for a gas station, changing the filter was like having a new car. Fuel consumption is up more than 9mpg in the city and around 11mpg on the highway. The old car ran smoother, stood up and walked more, and idled stronger and smoother. I've added up the cost of filters over the life of my machine to date and in one year I've spent more than just buying my K&N. Since then I've had three oil changes and every time they checked the filter it looked as clean as the day I put it in. We have now bought them for my parents cars and my dad's 1 ton dump truck for his landscaping. Fuel costs decreased from 1300.00 per month to 800.00. If you think I'm not praising this investment, you're crazy. Now that should be special. at this fuel price. I plan to use more K&N products in the near future and for many years to come.

Pros
  • Air Filter
Cons
  • Big and bulky
