Review on πŸ”₯ Honeywell S8610U3009 Furnace Intermittent Control Unit by Jared Coleman

The typical Honeywell.item worked well but was difficult to understand - unclear instructions.

Used to replace a Honeywell S86H-1006 with a 1990's carrier that stalled the moment the intermittent pilot began to glow. At first the problem was intermittent and gradually got to the point where the stove wouldn't turn off for a week. This device (carrier 58ED050) has a combination of igniter and flame detector in one stick. First I cleaned the ignition sensor, no change. I then suspected the S86H was faulty, so I tried tapping on its plastic case when a heat request was triggered and it did some strange things, like firing an igniter randomly, or worse: a couple of times it opened the pilot gas supply, I didn't activate the detonator hard enough to smell the gas. Try to make sure all cable connections are tight. No changes. I still thought the flame sensor/igniter or spark wire might be the culprit, but by then I was tending to think the S86H was bad so I ordered this fixture. The item has arrived. I suggest you do the same as with Honeywell's intentionally obfuscated instructions (apparently sometimes) it was barely enough. A reminder of other Honeywell items I have installed. This completely solved the problem and I'm happy, bearing in mind that the first one to fail in the oven was a Honeywell S86H, but of course it was 29 years old. A little thankful, a little bit I think I have Stockholm Syndrome too. ;) Docked a star for Rubik's Cube Style instructions.
