Replace camshaft sensor

The camshaft sensor itself arrived on time and in good condition. Chevrolet Malibu works much better. An OBD-II scanner identified the problem prior to purchase. However, removing the old sensor was a problem. To access the camshaft position sensor, the serpentine belt, power steering pump, left engine mount (after supporting the engine with a jack and jack stands) and belt cover must be removed. Belt Tensioner (18 inch used here) Tool needed to remove and install the serpentine belt due to clearance limitations. It wasn't clear in the Malibu repair manual how to remove the stuck sensor. To remove most of the old sensor was a dremel tool (with various nozzles) and a screw drilled into the old sensor to catch the sensor. After the old camshaft sensor was removed, the installation went smoothly.

Pros
  • Camshaft position
Cons
  • Nothing here
