It's definitely more expensive than the plastic ones, but it will last a cat's life and longer. The plastic ones picked up scratches and odors very easily and were impossible to clean. You should probably replace them once a year. If so, this box would pay for itself in 6 years. Higher sides mean you can put in more litter to prevent urine from pooling on the floor. However, I would switch to a plastic scoop as the metal scratches. I have 2 of these (with cardboard around them to reduce dust and give my older one a place to wipe his paws) and a cleaning robot. My situation with the garbage collection is much better than before.
