Review on EKL Switch Monitor Extended Display by Damien Krzywicki

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Did pretty much everything I wanted

The general build quality of this unit appears to be pretty good, but features are a bit lacking and there are a number of quirks. After some trial and error everything worked out and I can switch perfectly between Windows Desktop, Windows Laptop, Mac Mini and BMAX Linux.2. Happy with the quality of the cable that came with it, but they only send you 4 HDMI/USB2.0 hybrid cables. So for a full connection you need 6 more HDMI 2.0 cables and 4 3.5mm cables.3. Definitely do all the critical aspects of the job I need! Bad: 1. Using the 3.5mm audio jacks produces an odd buzz that fades in and out. That's actually the main reason I deducted a star; seems to be a defect. I actually just bought a separate audio switch to solve this problem. Recommend this silent mechanical audio switch. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08NFTMC8K/2. The 2 USB ports for a dedicated mouse/keyboard are useless if you have anything other than medical equipment. I had to use the "other" two available ports for the DAS mechanical keyboard and G502 mouse. Otherwise, the manufacturer's software literally cannot find the devices. Also note that stealing just the two remaining USB ports means I can't add any other shared peripherals. USB 3.0 must be used! Common application for all devices!4. Don't expect your GSync to go through this.5. This is an HDMI device and penalizes you if you try to use display port adapters. I have two 2560 x 1080 monitors and have never found a way to get my GTX 1080 TI displayports to use that resolution. I bought a DVI/HDMI cable to connect a second monitor; what is crazy Anyway, I wanted to run a DP to one of the monitors so I can switch input on the monitor if I need GSync @ 144hz to play games.6. Your power supply could have had a longer cord and I wish it used some sort of standardized USB plug adapter. As far as I can tell it's semi-redundant anyway, without alternatively drawing power from the various USBs you have plugged in. Again, this is just impractical, as it's already to the detriment of USB 2.0.

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • It's ok
