Inexpensive system with little setup difficulty

I bought a "Revo America Ultra 16CH 4K H.265 NVR, 4TB Surveillance Grade HDD, Remote Access" with 8 4K cameras. Overall I think it's very good value for money, but be prepared for a few disappointments when setting up. Once you get over that and have your system set up, the 4K picture quality is fantastic. Here are a few things to keep in mind: 1.) These are wired cameras so you will need to run a Cat 5e or Cat6 cable from this NVR to the camera locations. They are NOT wireless. This is good for me as I don't believe in the reliability of wireless cameras. 2.) This is an NVR, not a DVR. It still records video from cameras, but each camera that connects to it must have an IP address. Old analog cameras with BNC connectors will not work with it. 3.) REVO support is limited on weekdays. If you try to set this up over the weekend, your questions may not be answered until the next business day. I've tried a few online applications that have only gotten piecemeal responses. When I called after waiting about half an hour, the person I was talking to was very nice. But it also has very limited documentation. Make sure you get the ULTRA NVR manual and not other old REVO DVR manuals on their website. Also, any apps you want to download must have "ULTRA" in their titles. I accidentally downloaded some other apps called "REVO Mobile HD" which did NOT work. 5.) I believe REVO requires you to sign up for their P2P cloud service if you want to remotely connect to the cameras from a smartphone or tablet, for example. I couldn't get a working connection (and I've done a lot of networking and port forwarding for other products) without registering for it. If you just want to keep an eye on things from a wired monitor next to the NVR, then don't worry, you don't need a cloud service. at least 60 seconds for the NVR to assign an IP address to the camera. If you're expecting an image right away, you'll think something is wrong - just be patient and it will appear. But in the end, after everything worked, I'm very happy with the picture quality and features of the NVR.
