Review on 🏠 First Alert Onelink Safe & Sound - Smart Hardwired Smoke + Carbon Monoxide Detector and Premium Home Speaker featuring Amazon Alexa by Ryan Brunson

February 2020 Update: Airplay 2 is out and I've decided to buy it safe and sound. The installation went much better than the first time and only took about 3 minutes after it was fixed to the ceiling. The installation was a big problem last time and the app was very unstable. It seems like it took a while for the First Alert to fix many bugs in the app and on the device. I'll add a third star and will update again when I see everything is stable. Cool idea, but I brought it back for a couple of reasons. I found the speaker to be below average for the price. I wasn't expecting too much based on the size, but First Alert grossly overdid it. I didn't like that I couldn't disable Alexa without a constant red light. I don't care about Alexa, and that's why I didn't buy Safe and Sound at all. As for the light issues, this thing is too bright for a bedroom and there's no way to make it as dark as a regular detector. I really wanted Airplay 2 capability and a reliable HomeKit enabled smoke/carbon monoxide alarm. I struggled to set up Homekit longer than necessary. My whole house is based on Apple's Homekit. Lightbulbs, switches, multiple Apple TVs, 4 HomePods, and more, and that was by far the biggest challenge integrating it into my Homekit setup. I've had to factory reset and restart setup at least 4 times. I contacted support to see why I'm getting some of these errors and they responded fairly quickly, but this was released before it was actually ready for prime time. I might buy them again once the price goes down, some of the bugs are fixed and the Airplay 2 is finally added, or I'll wait until their new Homekit Smoke/Co models come out and skip the Airplay 2 speaker altogether.
