Not worth it.: Combined smoke and carbon monoxide detector

The First Alert doesn't always connect to Alexa to listen to music. Just know that before you spend $200 on one of these. The sound is not great at all. It sounds like it's out of a can with no bass, and when you turn it on, the sound degrades. The app is terrible and only works "sometimes". It took my phone a while to connect to the device and after a few days the color control stopped working and now it's turning red. Basically it's an expensive fire and carbon monoxide monitor that's now…

Important Home Security Update

Done and 10 minutes later I have Alexa on the ceiling. Installation was easy as described - the app provides very clear step-by-step instructions. Completely DIY, no user guide or manual needed for my experience. My alarm clock is centrally located on the second floor and the speaker easily reaches every room - great for music! The night light is very bright but easy to set up in the app. I recommend turning off the light before bed. I can't wait to pair this with my other Alexa devices. I'll…

February 2020 Update: Cool it can finally be done

February 2020 Update: Airplay 2 is out and I've decided to buy it safe and sound. The installation went much better than the first time and only took about 3 minutes after it was fixed to the ceiling. The installation was a big problem last time and the app was very unstable. It seems like it took a while for the First Alert to fix many bugs in the app and on the device. I'll add a third star and will update again when I see everything is stable. Cool idea, but I brought it back for a couple of

Good start but long way

Don't waste your money on this shit. They don't work as advertised and Alexa isn't responding. If you call Revain because Alexa isn't working, you'll be prompted to call First Alert. If you call First Alert because Alexa isn't working, you'll be prompted to call Revain. #frustrations. I wish I had ever bought them. 1) my Kidde detectors are 9 years old 2. 2 existing Kidde detectors no longer work 3. Many of my devices are automated with Samsung SmartThings and Alexa actually only bought 1 to…

Initial setup issues but great customer support!

I worked with First Alert for three weeks to get this thing up and running but it had problems straight away. I have edited this review over time. It all started with a star. I paid $249.99 for this thing and now less than a month later it's $199. As far as I can tell, it worked for a few days with no problems. Alexa sounded great. We had no fires or carbon monoxide, but the unit passed the test normally. One night the night light turned on by itself. Sucker - bright white light. and it is…

Pros
  • Great for a small home

  • Questionable purchase for seniors
