Review on 🚴 MTX Rear Bike Basket: Optimize Your Search! by Ross Bagby

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good basket and linkage system but some people have trouble with installation.

This basket appears to be relatively well made. This is a beautiful rubber braid. However, the handle is just bare wire, which you don't want to carry any weight with. The locking system is good as are the guides in the MTX rails that keep it secure. I threw in a dumbbell as a test load and it didn't budge at all. The real problem is that depending on the geometry of your bike and rack, you can have a lot of installation problems. It's almost impossible to know if it will work for you without trying it. The shorter your inseam is relative to your wheel size, the more likely this is an issue. I would say that unless you have really long legs, the vast majority of people attempting this with their bar poses will likely have problems. If you have a wheeled luggage rack, you will most likely be fine. It's on the back of my seat and is a bit uncomfortable. I really wish they'd included a shim to push the strut back a few inches for close clearance people. An additional slider for the back of the basket would also be nice. Luckily I can solve this problem with my 3D printer, but otherwise I would look for another solution. Topeak really should go a step further and make a mounting kit specifically for this basket and not just include their generic basket mounting kit.
