Not for heavy loads

This is a lightweight basket that freely fits on the Topeak MTX rear tray. While the rear shelf is rated at 50 pounds, I'd bet this basket shouldn't hold more than 20. It's very fluffy and the weight of the contents comes from a small plastic square that doesn't even take up the entire length. Basket. Sliding the basket into the MTX rails is also a bit annoying. These are very small rails and you have to be very precise. It's easy when the basket is empty and the place is light, but very…

Great rear basket when it fits

I added a Topeak Explorer stand to my mid-sized Giant Escape 1 Hybrid and this MTX basket is designed to slide and snap into this stand, which it does . Just great. The basket is solid and well designed, but note that it may not fit many smaller frames as it slides over the back of the saddle and the Topeak Explorer post is quite tall. To mount it on my mid-size hybrid bike, I mounted the rack to the underside of the two threaded eyelets on the frame that are typically used for fender mounts. I

The MTX mount is excellent and there is plenty of room in the basket.

Basket construction is good and solid. Other reviews mention the handle rattling, however the handle is designed to snap firmly onto the edge of the basket and prevent rattling. The grip would have been nice as it is a bit heavy on the hands. The basket is big and that is the main reason for the three stars. The basket is handy for visiting a farmer's market or a quick spree, as well as for storing jackets and lunch on a walk. The downside is that it interferes with the fit and cannot be fixed.

Pros
  • Solid construction
Cons
  • I really have no complaints about it, everything is fine

This basket appears to be relatively well made. This is a beautiful rubber braid. However, the handle is just bare wire, which you don't want to carry any weight with. The locking system is good as are the guides in the MTX rails that keep it secure. I threw in a dumbbell as a test load and it didn't budge at all. The real problem is that depending on the geometry of your bike and rack, you can have a lot of installation problems. It's almost impossible to know if it will work for you without…

Good casual carrier. Just be careful not to tip over once it's in place.

I've had this basket for about a month now and it's great for throwing away things I don't want (or can't) carry on my body. Instead of fiddling around with bags and belts, I just throw in my laptop bag and bike lock and leave the house. I was hoping it would be as comfortable as the back seat of my car and was not disappointed. I was concerned about the size and how proportional it would look on my Trek 7.2. But it looks great. The size is large enough to be convenient for small grocery…
