Review on 🐾 Prestige Heavy-Duty Dog Tie-Out Leash - Super Beast XXL, 40 Feet Long, Vinyl Coated Cable, Twin Swivel Snaps - for Dogs Up To 250 lbs by Sara Terry

Great cable for dogs, BAD clips!

This heavy duty dog leash is rated for dogs up to 250 pounds and I believe it. While my two Great Danes only weigh 150 pounds and don't tend to tug on their cord, I didn't like the user ratings of the next cord (125 pound estimate) and wanted the cord to at least be rated for their weight. The cord is lighter than I would have guessed from the picture and shouldn't be a problem for any dog over 100 pounds. The case is slick and slippery and so far has refused to tangle and tangle where the old aging cable did. The cable crimps and fittings are impressively strong and I'm not worried about the end that attaches the cable to the porch post. However, the massive clamps are one of the worst devices I've seen. They lock on the inside and have to be pulled out to open. You can't just run your finger over the collar ring; You must hold the latch open and lock it by hand. This proved impossible one-handed, although I believe sufficiently strong and nimble fingers, some practice, and a fairly patient dog would have made it possible. Two hands are also required to unlock and remove the clip. The clip is very heavy, over six ounces, and I think even a very large dog would get tired of pulling on the collar. The worst part, however, is that if you twist the collar ring properly, it can snag the bottom of the clasp and break it open. I can easily see how an active or "cunning" dog understands that enough riding is enough and he will be free. In fact, these clips are so bad in every way for this purpose that I have no idea why the manufacturer uses them. But there is a way out. I used a hacksaw to cut through the pivot on one clip and replaced it with a lighter but much easier to use and secure clip. Your hardware store should have a selection of clips of every size to suit your dog and preference, and with these replacements this great value cable from Revain is a great and trusted solution for large dogs.
