This is a good cooler for a small space like an atrium

This is a good cooler for a small space like an atrium but I use it in my garage. I live in El Paso and rooftop evaporative coolers are still plentiful due to the dry air. Evaporative air conditioners do not work in humid climates - when the humidity is high, only warm air is blown in. It is best to use it in a place where you can control the airflow. In the garage I leave the garage door open about 3 to 4 inches - the idea is to have an outlet for circulation. You don't want doors or windows being opened to let in warm or hot air from outside. The single outlet allows the cooler to lower the room temperature and keep the air fresh. My only complaint at the moment is that I've been trying to find a "honeycomb coolant" replacement part. This is the platform where water flows from the top of the unit down through the filter to the water tank below. It picks up dirt and flaky mineral deposits. Honeywell recommends changing the water and cleaning the filter every two months, but as you use roofs for many years, the filters will become clogged and airflow will be restricted. It just seems like they have a replacement, but I've searched for weeks and couldn't find a retailer that sells them. One page lists a thin foam pad (used in rooftop coolers) that might work, but not as well as a block filter. There is a star deduction for that - and on the back of the device you will find neither the replacement frame nor the activated carbon dust filter that comes with the "cooling medium" kit.

Pros
  • Nice build
Cons
  • The cable is shorter than others
