I follow tracks regularly and have 2 cars that I take to the track: my 2006 BMW Z4 M Coupe and my 2017 Corvette Grand Sport. Long before that, I was the guy who would spend an hour meticulously wrapping the front of a car and then re-covering it with a removable Colgan bra. Finally, I've embraced chipping and tire marks as a fact of life when driving a high-performance car around the track, especially when you're taking it to a high-banked, high-speed track like Auto Club Speedway, where when you're getting through the twisty section of track at just the right time got stuck behind the car, you have no choice but to let yourself be thrown forward. Over time, the front of the Z4 M Coupé looks sandblasted. About 3 years ago I decided to dismantle and repaint the bumper. Even then, some of the deeper influences are still manifesting. Eventually I'll have to take the bumper off, sand it smooth and then repaint it, but that's a lot of work. With the C7 Corvette Grand Sport I decided to try this TrackArmour product. The application is actually relatively simple and straightforward. Of course, it's a lot easier than the hassle of attaching strips of tape just to make it look like you're on the track with your jewelry for the first time. From about 20 feet away, it's barely noticeable on a white car. I'm sure on a darker machine all the bubbles and wrinkles will properly capture the light to make it much more visible. But, hey, I don't care about the looks on the track anyway. It has very low tack, almost a mixture of the low tack of a vinyl sticker and, dare I say it, static electricity adhesion. Also during application it is very easy to peel and rearrange which is a big plus. However, it tears easily and doesn't stretch like regular vinyl or cling film, so use caution when trying to pull and stretch. Also, it adheres well to clean painted surfaces, but not well to itself. After driving in excess of 140 mph along the banks of Auto Club Speedway, some of the overlapping sections began to peel. After about 2 sessions, about 15% of uses show signs of planned climbing. In a way, that's good. Especially if you overlap certain areas. In the end, the front bumper impact zone remained relatively clean, although the product looked like it had been through hell. The coated areas of the bumper and hood were removed with a simple scrub to remove any tire marks. And after a little detailing, the car looks like new, except for areas not coated with the TrackArmour product, there are pinprick marks on the clear coating from dirt hitting the surface. Next time I will definitely apply the product to areas like the mirror and A-pillar. My garage colleague suggested products like the Xpel Clear Bra, but for the cost of the Xpel app, you can buy 100 rolls of these. That's enough for 200 track days, 800 track sessions. I don't think sheer bra appliques can last that long with a bang that big. This product works as advertised for tracks you KNOW will give you a large dose of track rubber and small rocks being picked up by the vehicle in front of you when going through a high speed sweeper as a non permanent solution and is easy to apply and easy to remove.
