Fast setup, great coverage, simple UI

In a year of working and studying from home, I've spent countless hours setting up our WiFi to provide a Excellent coverage and throughput can be achieved on our 2 story building. A few years ago I bought the Unifi brand by installing several 2.4Ghz access points. When COVID struck, there was noise in the area from using Wi-Fi on the same channels, making it necessary to switch to 5GHz hotspots. Despite having good coverage and speed, a few times a week I would lose one of those precious hotspots and our devices would struggle to connect to the next one until I manually reset the hotspot. My wife convinced me to give up pride in expensive gear and try the mesh system. Setup was very easy, just plug the device into the modem, reboot the modem and find it in the application, then follow the procedure to add devices to the network. I installed one in the extreme northwest corner of the basement where the modem is housed, one on the south side of the main floor, and one on the north side of the second floor. Everything is connected, we have up to 46 devices, some wired, most wireless, all working great. Some smart speakers had to be reconnected to the WiFi network after the change. Our doorbell and backyard camera, both 2.4GHz, previously read 75-80% signal (barely enough), now 92 and 100% signal, so there's no delay in notifications. Then I set up user groups and restrictions. It was too easy to find devices (Xbox, cell phones, etc.), assign them to the children's group, and set quiet times and bedtimes during the week for them to study and sleep. I usually like to mess around with the hardware and look at all the data and stats that the Unifi system has given me. This grid system is made for a different type of consumer that I think I'm becoming, those who love an easy setup and just do as they say (I have to become my dad). The only way my previous system outperformed this mesh system was in speed. I'm consistently getting 30-40Mbps wireless throughout my house, which is more than enough where previously I was approaching 80Mbps. I can't say for sure, but I think it's because the grid blocks share the bandwidth. Bravo on three devices with full coverage at the price of an enterprise hotspot.

Pros
  • High marks for support and longevity from testers
Cons
