Review on πŸ“· Enhanced Imagelab FS5CO5 Slide and Negative Scanner - 5 Megapixel for Superior Scanning by Jae Newton

Great idea, terrible execution

I was very excited about this product and despite some questionable reviews I decided to take a chance. I lost. Like other reviewers, I had a problem putting some of the negatives in the tray. When I crop the sides they fit, but that leads to other problems - often the frame number is there, and cropping removes that number and I lose the order of my images. Some of the negatives fit well, although they didn't fit before I closed the negative compartment lid. When I try the same trick with some of my other negatives, they all warp and flatten out. The scanned area does not cover the entire image, probably 10-15% of the image is not scanned. This means that I have to decide whether I want to crop left, right or center. At least I have that option because the tablet has a lot of wiggle room when you insert it into the device. You cannot change the settings. It always scans the same size and resolution. The quality of these images is pretty bad. I can't see many people in my photos because they are very dark. I'm not good enough with Photoshop or any other software to make them better. I must have the same problem as the previous reviewer because all of my scans have dust artifacts in the same place. The scanning surface is dirty and there doesn't seem to be much I can do about it. This is the case after about 30 minutes of use. On the plus side, the SD card slot is a great idea, I can just scan my photos onto an SD card (2GB limit) and take it with me wherever I go. Scanning is very fast. It's a really good concept, it just doesn't work. I would really like to return mine.
