I had a similar device for years, but with red numbers, dismantled for installation in the dashboard and fried. was my bad, not the product. So this version is fantastic - it reads your car's current voltage like a multimeter, but in real time while the cigarette lighter socket is active, usually only when your key is in a position other than the OFF position. I used the previous position to diagnose my faulty alternator and then confirmed with a DMM/voltmeter. It also shows the current AMP consumption of devices connected to it via USB. With the engine running, it shows both signs of a working charging system and a decent car battery. When charging my Samsung phone it shows an amp draw of 0.54 and my tablet also shows 1.22 amps, all indications are normal and usable
