Last month I bought a NEC ND-2500A 8X recorder and a pack of Memorex 8X DVD-Rs for my first recording. As a result, they were only recorded at 4X, which is acceptable with DVD-R in this condition. After reading some forums I found out that FujiFilm 4X DVD-R 10 packs are known to burn at 8X because they are Taiyo Yuden media. So I bought them and they actually picked up twice as fast as they should. However, these Imation drives have a maximum speed of 2X. Even after downloading some "corrected" firmware from [.] forums. Pity! Anyone looking for a good disc for their particular burner should read as much as possible on the forums before purchasing packs of 25, 50, or 100 DVD-R or DVD+R discs. I've heard that +R is much better overall, so I'll stick with it from now on. Recommended brands: Taiyo Yuden, Mitsubishi, Verbatim, TDK, FujiFilm, HP, Mitsui.
