These have taken the place of metatarsal supports AND heel inserts for me. Only complaint is that they're too thick in the toe area, and have to be trimmed to right behind the toes so as not to crowd the toebox. Feels a little odd, and insole shifts occasionally. Certainly mfgr could taper material in that area.
