Bought a cheap bath/shower cartridge at the end of July to replace a 40 year old original cartridge that was almost frozen in the valve body. Five months later, the replacement was back on my "favorites” list. The cartridge was so rusted in the valve body (see photo) that the woman could no longer open the valve. This replacement valve from another brand appears to be only partially brass - hence the corrosion. Just prior to installing this cartridge in my tub/shower I installed a genuine Moen replacement cartridge in another bathroom which I bought from my local hardware store - still works great. We strongly encourage you to pay a few dollars more; cheap can be expensive.
