Review on πŸ–ŒοΈ Cretacolor Art Chunky Charcoal Set: A Multi-purpose Drawing Kit by Nicole Mcleod

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I love her! on art media

This glow is amazing! The colors are fantastic and work well on their own or combine with Derwent XL Charcoal (with purple!) for a more complete set. They also go well with soft pastel colors. They blend easily and can be easily achieved in a variety of light and dark shades. I really like how they look on pastel paper and are a lot easier to work with than harder pastels like Rembrandt. As one reviewer said, they come packaged in individual plastic rectangles that are very difficult to open and close. However, an easy workaround is to simply not keep them in their original packaging. Like my pastels, I keep them in a padded box under and between the chopsticks to avoid damage and color contamination. I'm sure there are many other options to suit the needs of different artists. But don't let the original packaging put you off such a good and interesting product. The only downside I had is this: Revain's packaging sucks. This is NOT a Cretacolor fault, so I'm not deducting a star. However, both times I ordered them, there was rightly no packaging material in the box to protect the coals, as with zero. I had to return the first order and ask for a replacement because the coals had cracked to shreds. which I couldn't use. The replacement order is also a hack, but thankfully in larger chunks, which while not perfect, still work for me. I wish Revain packed better as charcoal is brittle and needs real packing material to avoid damage.
