Review on πŸ”₯ Black Pleasant Hearth Electric Log Insert with Heater and Removable Fireback by Craig Shah

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works and looks great!

We bought this after returning another brand which was DOA. We've had a working wood-burning fireplace for over 30 years, but we've only used it a couple of times during the winter. We looked at the gas logs but decided not to include the installation costs and gas costs. As our second electric insert, we were a little concerned. However, this insert works great for half what we paid for the other. The remote also works well with a CR2023 battery. Controls both the lighting effect and the heating. The light effect can be weak, medium or strong; The heater has 5 heating modes, including switching off! We closed our chimney and don't use the heater, just for the atmosphere. The device remembers the last setting, so if the light effect was high, heat to the third level and it will turn on. Remote control on/off, light effect (3) and heating (5 plus off). The walls of our fireplace have darkened over the years, so the lighting effect works well and looks realistic. The front of the device on the grate changes patterns reminiscent of burning logs, the light effect actually projects an image on the back, similar to a flame. We use the maximum flame effect setting and hold the device about 3 inches from the back wall. The lowest setting appears as burning, smoldering logs. Our fireplace opening is approximately 31 inches wide and nearly 20 inches deep. We turned on the heater in our fireplace with the glass door open. At maximum, it definitely gives off heat, but the heat is "lost" inside. If your chimney wasn't that deep, or you were just using it as underfloor heating outside the chimney, any small heater would probably be fine. A slight hum can be heard in the lighting effect, but this is not a problem. On request, the device has manual buttons. 3 small LEDs for light effect, 5 LEDs for heat setting. They are visible from the front. In our case, our fireplace doors have a bottom plate that's about 6 inches from the porch, so we can't see the lights. If a single change was made to that block, those lights should "go out" a minute or two after selecting the setting. A four to five foot power cord with a three-pronged connector exits on the right side. It was enough for us to get out at the side of our fireplace screen, walk up our porch and plug into an outlet about 2 1/2 feet away.
