Review on Mr Heater F215100 3800 BTU Propane by Sam Bell

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Dangerous - not worth the trouble.

Bought before a trip. Parcel arrived undamaged from Revain. First use and the thing didn't work properly. The entire surface of the device was surrounded by a large blue flickering flame that extended to the metal surface. When I contacted the company, a poorly formatted PDF was sent with instructions on how to disassemble and clean the entire unit. They also explained that they *often* had these issues and that the blocks remained unsealed and exposed to the environment *after* the test. I asked them to return my purchase and they said no. I asked them to send a replacement and they said no. I was offered to clean it (told me everything is fine and it only needs cleaning because it's new) but I have to pay shipping. On a new device I used for 30 seconds. Seems a bit weird. Especially after her initial cleaning didn't help. I tried following the instructions and cleaning it myself. First, instead of removing the six screws as instructed, my unit does NOT have two screws. For example, in the plastic case there was no screw, only a hole. I don't know why or how some of them might be missing. It scares me what else they missed. There's another 1 star review here with pictures showing where the guy had to add another screw inside the device - so this seems to be a fairly common problem. It is also necessary to remove/destroy part of the decorative sticker in order to remove the right side of the block (according to the instructions). So even if it works, it'll look like shit, at least compared to the new heater. Maybe you don't care, I really don't care, but telling customers to destroy the stickers to clean the product certainly shows a lack of attention to design. Also, the instructions suck. And if you're like me, you don't have a 2-inch pipe cleaner lying around at home. And I don't have an air compressor, according to the instructions I received via email. And if it's so common, why aren't these additional instructions included with the product? There's a maintenance section in the included instructions, but if you don't have hands, you're screwed. If you have hands, you have tools, and you don't mind wasting an hour cleaning a new device, maybe this is the product for you. You may have better luck than me, but both the instructions and customer service told me that CLEANINGS are required FREQUENTLY AND REGULARLY. see no mention of it in the Revain description. Funny how that is.

Pros
  • A nice thing
Cons
  • Basically ok, but...
